Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new MacBook Ultra in late 2026, marking one of the most significant redesigns of the Mac lineup in years. According to a report from research firm Omdia, Samsung Display will begin supplying custom OLED panels for the new laptops as early as July 2026, with a likely September launch window. The new MacBook Ultra is expected to come in two sizes: 14.3 inches and 16.3 inches, slightly larger than the current MacBook Pro models due to slimmer bezels and a redesigned chassis.

What sets the MacBook Ultra apart is its display technology. Unlike standard OLEDs used in most laptops or even Apple’s iPhones, the new model will use a hybrid OLED architecture combining oxide TFT and RGB tandem OLED technology. This design, previously seen only in the iPad Pro, is engineered to consume less power than LTPO or single-layer RGB OLEDs—critical for maintaining battery life in a thinner, lighter device.

The MacBook Ultra is expected to sit above the current MacBook Pro in Apple’s lineup, not replace it, signaling a broader product strategy. By the end of 2026, Apple could offer MacBooks ranging from the entry-level Neo to the high-end Ultra, covering more market segments than ever before. The shift reflects Apple’s push to innovate beyond processors and software, now extending to display efficiency and industrial design.
