Bloober Team, known for the Silent Hill 2 remake and psychological horror titles like Observer, has announced Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a new sci-fi thriller set in the Star Trek universe. The game centers on Ro Laren, the Bajoran Starfleet officer originally portrayed by Michelle Forbes, who reprises her role. Set during The Next Generation era, the story follows Ro as she crash-lands on an uncharted planet responding to a distress call. The planet, described as a 'spaceship graveyard where nothing is as it seems,' becomes a hostile environment filled with twisted creatures and a mind-invading entity.

The game blends Star Trek’s legacy of exploration with Bloober Team’s signature dark, atmospheric tension. This marks a rare foray into psychological horror for the franchise, which has only occasionally touched on the genre. The collaboration with Paramount Games Studio aims to honor Star Trek’s core values while introducing a bold, fresh narrative style. Creative leads from both teams emphasized the importance of balancing respect for canon with innovative storytelling.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is scheduled for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest 2026, accompanied by a teaser trailer that highlights the game’s eerie visuals and unsettling tone. Bloober Team is also developing a Silent Hill remake and Layers of Fear 3, signaling a major push in narrative-driven horror experiences.
